
Islamabad: Following the destruction caused by the 6.3 magnitude earthquake that struck villages close to the city of Herat on Saturday, October 7th, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) held a special National Emergencies Operations Centre (NEOC) session on Sunday to review the situation and the humanitarian assistance package for Afghanistan. According to a news release, members from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other departments participated the session, which was presided over by Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, chairman of the National Democratic Movement of Afghanistan. Ubaid Ur Rehman Nizamani, Pakistan’s ambassador to Afghanistan, also attended.
The circumstances in Herat, Afghanistan, and the immediate support that can be offered to our compatriots country Afghanistan in need were explained to the participants. The NDMA has made arrangements to send out emergency supplies such food, medicine, tents, and blankets. Along with these things, a Search and Rescue Team has also been shortlisted and is prepared to be sent. The Chairman of the NDMA emphasized the need for immediate humanitarian aid for Afghanistan, which should be provided by the quickest path possible, utilizing both air and land routes to Afghanistan.
Additionally, he asked all participating government departments and agencies to coordinate and facilitate the process.
