
(APP): According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the weekly inflation rate as measured by the Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) fell by 0.25% for the total consumption group for the week that ended on September 14. According to the PBS statistics, the SPI for the week under review in the aforementioned category was reported at 279.18 points as opposed to 279.87 points during the previous week. The SPI for the whole consumption group in the week under review increased by 26.25% when compared to the similar week last year.
The weekly SPI for all expenditure groups, with the base year 2015–16 =100, includes 51 necessary products and 17 urban locations. The SPI for the lowest consumption category, up to Rs 17,732, dropped from 285.27 points last week to 284.66 points, a 0.21% reduction. The SPI declined by 0.23 percent, 0.25%, 0.27%, and 0.27%, respectively, for the consumption categories from Rs 17,732-22,888, Rs 22,889-29,517, Rs 29,518-44,175 and above Rs 44,175 in each case. Out of 51 items, 24 (47.06%) saw price increases over the week, 8 (15.69%) saw price decreases, and 19 (37.25%) saw no change.
Chicken (-5.47%), sugar (-9.11%, bananas (-0.86%), eggs (-2.79%), pulse gram (-0.57%),vegetables (1 kg) (-0.16%), tea packets (-0.59%) and cooking oil (5 liters) were among the products that saw a decline in their average prices week over week (WoW). Tomatoes (4.29%), bread (3.92%), garlic (4.21%),pulse masoor (3.19%),pulse moong (1.66%),pulse mash (1.25%),onions (3.60%), shirting (1.68%), salt powdered (2.77%), lawn printed (1.32%), and long cloth (1.18%) were among the items with rising average prices on a week-over-week (wow) basis. On an annual basis (yoy), the price of certain commodities decreased, including tomatoes (24.55%), electricity costs for the first quarter (21.96%), onions (5.31%), and pulse grains (0.26%).
On a Year-on-Year (YoY) basis, the commodities which recorded an increase in their average prices included gas charges for q1 (108.38%), wheat flour (114.37%),rice basmati broken (91.07%), cigarettes (98.11%), chilies powder (84.84%), sugar (90.27%), tea packet (76.19%),rice irri-6/9 (82.03%), gents sponge chappal (58.05%),bread (45.79%),gur (73.95%), gents sandal (53.37%),salt powdered (55.08%) and powdered milk (43.05%).
