PM Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar Seeks to Strengthen Ties with African Continent

Islamabad — In a bid to bolster Pakistan’s engagement with the African continent, Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar welcomed a delegation from the Senate of the Republic of Rwanda, headed by President Dr. Kalinda François-Xavier. The meeting took place in Islamabad on Wednesday and focused on enhancing diplomatic and trade relations.

Prime Minister Kakar expressed his contentment with the warm and cordial relations that exist between Pakistan and Rwanda. He conveyed Pakistan’s keen interest in strengthening its ties with African nations, particularly in sectors such as trade, investment, information technology, agriculture, and fostering people-to-people exchanges.

In a significant move, Prime Minister Kakar extended an invitation for Rwanda to establish its diplomatic mission in Islamabad, demonstrating Pakistan’s commitment to deeper collaboration. It’s worth noting that Pakistan had inaugurated its mission in Kigali in 2021.

During the meeting, the significance of parliamentary exchanges was underscored, with the Prime Minister appreciating the historic nature of President Kalinda François-Xavier’s visit as the first-ever Senate President from the Republic of Rwanda.

Additionally, Prime Minister Kakar lauded Rwanda’s impressive economic growth in recent years, acknowledging the strides made by the nation.

President Dr. Kalinda François-Xavier expressed his gratitude for the warm reception accorded to his delegation in Islamabad. Their visit included constructive meetings with parliamentarians, government officials, and private sector representatives.

The visit by the Rwandan Senate delegation to Pakistan was conducted at the invitation of the Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan, further strengthening the ties between the two nations.
