
Islamabad: President Dr. Arif Alvi highlighted the importance of conducting regular meetings of university senates to facilitate timely decision-making. He also emphasized the immediate filling of vacant positions for senate members in various universities.
This emphasis on senate meetings and prompt appointments was made during the 6th meeting of the Senate of COMSATS University Islamabad, which was chaired by the president at Aiwan-e-Sadr, as stated in a press release from the President Secretariat Press Wing.
The meeting was attended by the executive director of COMSATS, secretaries from the ministries of Information Technology and Federal Education, as well as senate members.
President Alvi further suggested that universities should initiate recruitment processes for teaching and administrative vacancies in a timely manner. He encouraged universities to establish new departments while considering the demands of the job market. He stressed the importance of conducting a thorough analysis of market needs before commencing teaching in new departments, ensuring that education and skills offered align with market demands.
The president also noted that the number of students seeking admission to universities in Pakistan was relatively low compared to other countries in the region. He recommended that universities leverage online education systems to increase the number of qualified graduates. He also advised universities to explore new avenues for generating financial resources and seek professional assistance for research grants.
