In a bid to fortify the bilateral ties between Pakistan and China, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar embarked on a crucial diplomatic visit to Beijing. The focal point of his discussions revolved around propelling the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) into its second phase, aiming for a more diversified and robust economic partnership between the two nations.
The CPEC, a monumental multibillion-dollar initiative, has been a cornerstone of collaboration between Pakistan and China since its inception. The first phase, launched in 2015, primarily concentrated on bolstering critical infrastructure, particularly in transportation and energy sectors. However, as the project transitions into its second phase, the emphasis shifts towards broader cooperation encompassing industrial development, agricultural modernization, and green energy initiatives.
During his meeting with Chinese Executive Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang, Deputy PM Ishaq Dar delved into various facets of bilateral relations, focusing on key areas such as trade, economic cooperation, and investment. Notably, discussions also centered on enhancing connectivity, particularly through the Khunjerab border crossing, and streamlining the visa regime to facilitate smoother exchanges between the two nations.
Both leaders expressed their commitment to sustaining the upward trajectory of Pakistan-China relations across all domains of cooperation, underscoring the enduring strength of their friendship. Deputy PM Dar highlighted the significant strides made by CPEC in energy and infrastructure development, expressing optimism about the positive outcomes anticipated in Phase-II, particularly in industry, agriculture, and mineral sectors.
Moreover, Deputy PM Dar conveyed heartfelt condolences to the Chinese official regarding the tragic incident on March 26, wherein a suicide bombing claimed the lives of five Chinese workers and their Pakistani driver en route to the Dasu hydropower project in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. This gesture underscored Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of Chinese personnel involved in CPEC endeavors.
In response, the Chinese Vice Premier reiterated his country’s steadfast support for Pakistan across various domains, emphasizing the significance of expediting the implementation of CPEC projects. The reaffirmation of mutual cooperation underscores the shared commitment towards realizing the full potential of the CPEC initiative, fostering economic prosperity and regional development.
As Deputy PM Ishaq Dar’s diplomatic mission in China concludes, the discussions held pave the way for strengthened economic collaboration, infrastructure development, and regional connectivity between Pakistan and China, heralding a new chapter in their enduring partnership.
