As Prince Harry gets ready to return to the UK, King Charles III’s administration has made a significant announcement ahead of the monarch’s coronation’s first anniversary.
Following an assessment of their ties to over 1,000 organizations, Buckingham Palace has declared that King Charles, Queen Camilla, and other senior royals will give up their patronages of around 200 charities and organizations.
Days before Harry might meet his father when he returns to Britain on May 8 to attend the Invictus Games, the news was announced on the royal family’s social media sites on Saturday.
The press release states: “Following His Majesty’s Accession in September 2022, a detailed review of Patronages and Presidencies has been undertaken.”
The press release continues: “To mark the first anniversary of Their Majesties’ Coronation, the conclusions will be shared with relevant organisations in the coming week.”
“The King and Queen and other members of the Royal Family donate their names and a significant amount of their time to numerous charities and organizations,” the statement continues. At the moment, a member of the Royal Family serves as the president or patron of more than 1,000 organizations.”
Numerous royal admirers and followers responded to the article in a big way. One wrote in the comments, saying, “How wonderful, I always enjoy when history is incorporated into the present.” Congratulations to the 1000+ organizations that have a member of The Royal Family as a president or patron, and to Their Majesties on the first anniversary of their coronation!”
Among the organizations that the late queen supported, there were 492, Charles 441, and Camilla 100. Just over 830 of the assessments were kept by the King and Queen or given to other royal family members.
The largest charity serving the armed services, the Dogs Trust, the Jockey Club, and the Wildlife Trusts, a grassroots organization dedicated to protecting the environment, are just a few that will continue to have a royal connection.
