U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday in Beijing.
President Xi expressed during the meeting that China is pleased to see a self-assured, transparent, prosperous, and growing United States and expects the US will similarly view China’s growth favorably.
Xi told US Secretary of State Antony Blinken at their meeting that “this is a fundamental issue that must be addressed, just like the first button of a shirt that must be put right, in order for the China-U.S. relationship to truly stabilize, improve, and move forward.”
Xi stated that the United States and China have had wind and rain throughout their 45 years of diplomatic relations, and that they have much to offer in the way of inspiration. This year marks the 45th anniversary of the two countries’ diplomatic relations.
According to Xi, China and the US should work together rather than against one another, find common ground and resolve disagreements rather than engage in savage rivalry, and honor their words by acting accordingly rather than saying one thing while acting differently.
“I suggested that the three guiding principles be win-win cooperation, peaceful coexistence, and mutual respect. They serve as a roadmap for the future as well as lessons from the past, according to Xi.
The world is in a state of flux and turmoil right now as a fundamental transition not seen in a century is taking place. According to Xi, there is a common aspiration among the two peoples and the global community for China and the US to enhance communication, resolve disputes, and promote collaboration.
Xi remarked, “I’ve said many times that the planet is big enough to accommodate the respective prosperity and common development of China and the United States.”
