President Dr. Arif Alvi has called upon medical universities to increase the number of graduates to address the shortage of doctors and nurses in Pakistan. He made this statement while presiding over the 6th session of the Senate of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University in Islamabad. The President emphasized the need to enhance healthcare accessibility for the public and stressed the importance of retaining female doctors in the healthcare sector by creating a friendly and harassment-free work environment for them. He also advised universities to improve their research performance and seek research grants from abroad.
During the session, the university’s achievements and future development projects were discussed. The university has increased admissions in various fields, including nursing, and has trained a significant number of specialists. It has also secured international research grants and excelled in medical research.
President Arif Alvi commended the university’s contributions to medical education and highlighted the importance of healthcare policies that focus on disease prevention and early diagnosis, which can alleviate the burden on the healthcare system and improve the overall health situation in the country. The university’s senate also approved amendments to the service laws of its employees during the meeting.
