Azerbaijan offers Pakistan to join green energy corridor

Islamabad – Azerbaijan and Pakistan have agreed to collaborate on the production, transmission, and trade of renewable energy, as well as green technologies for environmental sustainability.

This partnership was discussed during a high-level meeting between Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Pakistan, Ali Alizadeh, and the Coordinator to PM for Climate Change, Romina Khurshid Alam. The two countries have acknowledged the urgency of transitioning to sustainable energy sources, which is vital for meeting global decarbonization goals.

Green technologies such as green hydrogen and green ammonia, both essential elements in reducing carbon emissions, are increasingly recognized as critical components in the global energy mix. Green hydrogen, produced using renewable energy, offers a clean alternative for fuel and energy storage, while green ammonia technology, which is more mature, offers a cost-effective solution that can be rapidly deployed to reduce reliance on fossil fuels.

Talking to the Azerbaijani Ambassador, Ms. Romina stressed enhancing regional colloboration to form a strategic alliance to develop and transmit green energy moving towards a sustainable energy future for the region. She noted this collaboration aims to harness the region’s renewable resources, reduce carbon emissions, and enhance energy security.

Ms. Romina highlighted the critical role of regional collaboration in realizing the potential of green energy technologies. She stressed that by forming a strategic alliance, Azerbaijan and Pakistan can jointly develop and transmit green energy, which is essential for ensuring energy security, reducing carbon emissions, and promoting a greener, more sustainable future for the region.

The Green Energy Corridor offers a platform for three nations—Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan—to collaborate and create a renewable energy pathway that can benefit both domestic markets and global partners. Ambassador Ali Alizadeh further emphasized that this initiative is a major step toward achieving regional energy integration, fostering sustainable economic development, and ensuring a clean energy transition.

Ms. Alam expressed Pakistan’s interest in exploring potential participation in the Green Energy Corridor, recognizing its value in further enhancing the bilateral relationship between Pakistan and Azerbaijan while also helping both nations meet their climate commitments for environmental sustainability.
