Vietnam has reported a total of 99,639 cases of dengue fever since the beginning of this year, with 27 reported deaths, according to the country’s health ministry.
While there has been a slight reduction in the number of new dengue cases in the past week compared to the prior week, the infection rate in Hanoi, the capital city, has remained persistent.
Since the end of September 2023, the infection rate in Hanoi has surged significantly, averaging between 2,500 to 2,600 cases per week.
Throughout the year, the capital city has documented 20,548 cases of dengue fever, marking a threefold increase compared to the same period last year.
Though dengue fever cases have generally decreased worldwide, Hanoi has experienced a surge, which medical experts attribute to unfavorable weather conditions in the north, featuring intermittent rain followed by prolonged heat. These conditions have contributed to the increased growth of the mosquito population, as reported by the Vietnam News Agency. The health authorities are actively working to manage and mitigate the situation.
