The Caretaker Prime Minister recently chaired an interactive roundtable on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) in Beijing. The event saw the participation of numerous academics, scholars, and researchers from renowned Chinese think tanks and academic institutions.
During the roundtable, the Prime Minister shared Pakistan’s vision for CPEC, emphasizing its commitment to regional connectivity and sustainable development. He also highlighted the pivotal role that CPEC has played in improving Pakistan’s socio-economic landscape over the past decade.
The Prime Minister stressed that CPEC is a significant pillar of the Pakistan-China All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership, which is built on mutual understanding and respect. Reflecting on the achievements of CPEC over the last ten years, he emphasized the importance of reviewing the journey so far, identifying successes, learning from lessons, and setting a course for the next phase of high-quality project development. It was also revealed that both sides had agreed to transform CPEC into a corridor focused on growth, livelihood, innovation, openness, and green development.
Chinese academics and scholars, in their remarks, underscored the importance of CPEC as a significant partnership between Pakistan and China under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). They reaffirmed the continued interest of Chinese companies to invest in Pakistan’s Special Economic Zones and contribute to the further development of CPEC, enhanced regional connectivity, and sustainable progress.
The participants at the roundtable collectively agreed that, through the joint efforts of both nations, CPEC has the potential to serve as a cornerstone for regional trade and connectivity, fostering people-to-people contacts and strengthening the partnership between Pakistan and China.
