On October 16, 2023, the ongoing repatriation of Afghan refugees to their homeland continued. A total of 3,127 Afghan individuals embarked on their journey back to Afghanistan the previous day. Among these returnees were 387 men, 233 women, and 1,055 children, all departing for Afghanistan through the Torkham border.
The government has set a deadline of October 31 for illegal Afghan residents to leave the country. The voluntary return of Afghans to their homeland is seen as a positive development that will yield beneficial outcomes for both Afghanistan and the host country.
