At the United Nations, Pakistan has advocated for the support of developing nations in addressing the complex issues of socio-economic instability, food insecurity, and climate change.
Counsellor Hafiza Humaira Javaid conveyed this message during her statement at the UN General Assembly’s Second Committee, which focused on the eradication of poverty, agricultural development, food security, and nutrition in New York.
She stressed the urgency of global action to combat poverty, hunger, food insecurity, geopolitical conflicts, and the climate crisis, as these represent significant obstacles to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
Counsellor Javaid recommended that the international community work to resolve debt crises and establish fair financial systems by instituting reforms in international financial institutions. This would aid impoverished and developing countries in addressing socio-economic challenges and climate-related issues.
She also called for an end to the exploitation of natural resources in poorer nations and urged developed countries to honor their commitments by providing financial, technological, and capacity-building assistance to developing nations, helping them recover from crises and cope with the impacts of climate change.
Furthermore, Humaira Javaid proposed reforms and investments in the agricultural sector, with a specific focus on supporting farmers in developing countries by providing them with better access to seeds, fertilizer, and financial resources.
