The Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) has allocated over Rs 17 billion for implementing Community-Based Micro Hydropower Schemes (CBMs) in Kohistan, Pakistan

The Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) has allocated over Rs 17 billion for a series of schemes as Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program. These CBMs are aimed at promoting economic and social development in the Dasu Hydropower Project area. WAPDA will collaborate with local authorities and residents to carry out these development projects.

The initiatives include the construction of three hydropower stations with a minimum capacity of 3 megawatts (MW) each, along with transmission and distribution lines. Additionally, one high school and one vocational training center will be established in each of the three districts of Kohistan. Furthermore, the high school in Seo, Upper Kohistan, will be reconstructed as part of these efforts.

The Dasu Hydropower Project is currently under construction and will be completed in two stages. WAPDA is responsible for Stage-I, which has an installed generation capacity of 2160 MW and an annual energy generation of 12 billion units. Electricity generation from this project is expected to commence in 2026.
