Women Parliamentary Caucus Working Council Meeting

Islamabad :— Secretary Women Parliamentary Caucus (WPC) Dr. Shahida Rehmani convened a significant working council meeting to discuss key issues and strategies aimed at advancing women’s rights and welfare across the nation.

  1. Central Jail Visits: The council approved a plan for visits to central jails to assess the conditions and treatment of female inmates, ensuring their rights and rehabilitation needs are adequately addressed.
  2. **Beautification of the Capital on 6th September ** Efforts to enhance the aesthetics and of the capital city on 6th September were discussed, with a particular emphasis on the aesthetics of the parliament’s exterior.
  3. Provincial Caucus Engagement: The council resolved to visit provincial caucuses to strengthen intergovernmental collaboration and aims to invite the Provincial Women’s Parliamentary Caucus members to the capital for comprehensive discussions on the working of the councils.
  4. Review of Existing Bills:The working council has decided to have an in-depth review of current legislation affecting women, with a commitment to amend existing bills to better align with contemporary needs and challenges.
  5. National Helpline System: The council deliberated on the development of a national helpline system specifically for women, aimed at providing immediate support and resources in times of crisis.
  6. Prevention Through Legislation and Awareness: A strong focus was placed on prevention strategies, emphasizing the need for robust legal frameworks and awareness campaigns to combat gender-based violence and discrimination.
  7. Economic Empowerment: The meeting underscored the importance of integrating women’s economic empowerment into government policies, including support for microfinancing initiatives to boost women’s participation in the economy.

The Women Parliamentary Caucus remains committed to advancing gender equality through comprehensive policy measures, legislative reforms, and collaborative efforts across all levels of government. The council’s proactive agenda reflects a determined approach to addressing the evolving needs of women and ensuring their full and equitable participation in society.
The meeting was attended by the MNAs Ms Rana Ansar, Syeda Shehla Raza, Ms Ayesha Nazir Jatt and Ms Asia Naz Tanoli.
