Sukkur: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Inland Revenue Enforcement Network has destroyed counterfeit and non-customs paid cigarettes worth over Rs. 13.5 crore in Sukkur. The cigarettes were seized during various operations in Sukkur and other parts of Sindh over the past year.
A ceremony was held at the Site Area in Sukkur, where the seized cigarettes were set on fire. The event was attended by Regional Tax Office Sukkur Chief Commissioner Tahir Ahmed Memon, Inland Revenue Enforcement Network Regional Coordinator Muhammad Aslam Mari, Commissioner RTO Sukkur Parvez Ahmed Shar, and other FBR officers and staff.
Speaking to the media, RTO Sukkur Chief Commissioner Tahir Ahmed Memon, Regional Coordinator IRN Muhammad Aslam Mari, and Commissioner Parvez Shar said that the counterfeit cigarettes were manufactured by a company in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and were seized over the past year. They added that the FBR had also destroyed cigarettes and other goods worth Rs. 117 million in December.
This operation is part of the FBR’s ongoing campaign to prevent tax evasion, which will continue. They also stated that the Regional Tax Office has achieved its target for the year and is also preparing to bring small traders into the tax net.”
