Lahore : Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif set a new record by refunding access amount of money to the passengers which was illegally charged from them by the transporters. She asked people to pay only the fixed rent, while directing the administration and police to display approved fares prominently on vehicles and bus terminals.
Madam Chief Minister was briefed by the authorities concerned,” For the first time in the history of Punjab, the excess fare collected by the transporters was paid back to the riders. An amount of Rs 14,67,921 was returned to the passengers, while a fine of Rs 27,84,500 was imposed
on the transporters charging more than the official rate.”
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif was apprised,”Passengers were pleasantly surprised to get back the wrongly charged fare.”They asked in surprise,“Why are you returning the money?” The Deputy Commissioners and police personnels concerned replied,”On the direction of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the rent is to be paid as much as the government has fixed.”
Madam Chief Minister was also apprised,”On the first day of the grand operation, fare lists were checked in 3220
vehicles. After checking passengers’ tickets, number of rides; and asking passengers the questions like for how much a ticket was purchased?, the authorities determined how much extra fare was charged from the passengers. As a result of this, 1448 vehicles were challaned for violation, 354 were stopped and 09 cases were registered against those who received rent in excess of the fixed rate.
Madam Chief Minister was also briefed that a senior women passenger prayed for the Chief Minister after getting the money back. They told that Attock, Rawalpindi, Murree, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Sargodha, Khushab, Mianwali, Bhakkar, Chiniot, and Faisalabad were checked under the leadership of respective Deputy Commissioners. Moreover, checking was also done at Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Lahore, Nankana Sahib, Sheikhupura, Kasur, DG Khan, Layyah, Bahawalpur, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur at various transport terminals and routes.
Madam Chief Minister appreciated the Deputy Commissioners, Police and Road Transport Authority officers and staff for their stellar performance.
