World Anti-Tobacco Day, Coalition for Tobacco Control and Civil Society Join Hands to Protect Children from Tobacco

Sukkur :-  Under the banner of the Coalition for Tobacco Control (CTC), Magnate Sindh, and civil society organizations, World Anti-Tobacco Day will be celebrated on May 31 to raise awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco and protect children from the tobacco industry.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), every day, 12 to 15 hundred children under the age of 18 start using tobacco. To address this issue, an awareness program was organized at Sukkur’s Magnate Ni RH-HC Bachal Shah Miani, where over 100 representatives from civil society organizations participated.

The theme of this year’s World No Tobacco Day, presented by the WHO, is “Protecting Children from the Tobacco Industry.” To mark this occasion, various activities will be organized across the four provinces, including seminars, rallies, poster committees, speech contests, and signature campaigns. The aim is to raise awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco, increase taxes on tobacco products, and educate the public about the public health damage caused by tobacco.

Tobacco consumption not only harms human health but also pollutes our environment, including water, soil, beaches, and city streets, with chemicals, toxic waste, cigarette residue, and e-cigarette waste.

Speakers at the event, including Shakir Jamali, Dr. Irshad, Meher, and Advocate Yasin Ahmed Jatoi, emphasized the importance of protecting our future generation from the harmful effects of tobacco. They urged the government to strengthen laws and enforcement to control the tobacco industry, which is expanding its profits every year, leading to millions of deaths.

World No Tobacco Day is celebrated every year on May 31 with the support of the WHO to increase public awareness and urge governments to take action against the tobacco industry.
