As they advance to winning the Rugby World Cup championship, the All Blacks overpower Italy

AFP: New Zealand’s All Blacks demonstrated their dominance at the Rugby World Cup with an emphatic 96-17 victory over Italy at OL Stadium. This resounding win showcased the All Blacks’ clinical precision and physicality, leaving Italy struggling to keep up.

The match was marked by an impressive 14 tries scored by the New Zealand side, setting the tone early with scrumhalf Aaron Smith achieving a hat-trick in the first half. Ardie Savea, playing in the number eight jersey, was a standout player, securing the bonus point with a try in the 22nd minute and adding another before halftime. New Zealand’s remarkable discipline on the field was a significant improvement from their earlier warm-up matches and initial Rugby World Cup encounters.

This victory elevated New Zealand to second place in Pool A, securing 10 crucial points and positioning them closely behind group leaders France, with only a three-point difference. Their next challenge will be against Uruguay, while France prepares to face Italy in a crucial clash.

The All Blacks started strong, with Will Jordan scoring a try in the sixth minute, followed by Mark Talea’s try after a powerful run by Ardie Savea, leaving Italy significantly behind at 49-3. However, Italy displayed renewed determination in the second half, with Ange Capuozzo scoring their first try against the All Blacks since 2016.

The match also marked a significant milestone as Sam Whitelock, in his 149th test appearance, became the most-capped All Black of all time, surpassing Richie McCaw. Brodie Retallick scored New Zealand’s eighth try shortly after Whitelock entered the game.

Several players, including Dalton Papali’i, Dane Coles, and Damian McKenzie, made valuable contributions with tries for the All Blacks. Replacement center Anton Leinart-Brown sealed the victory with the 14th try, putting New Zealand within reach of the 101 points they scored against Italy in the 1999 World Cup.

Damian McKenzie took over kicking duties from Richie Mou’nga and successfully converted all four kicks. Italy managed to score a late try through winger Monty Ioane, showcasing their resilience despite the overwhelming defeat.
