In a move to bolster Pakistan’s digital economy, State Minister for IT and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, has announced the forthcoming launch of 5G spectrum services. This initiative, reported by state-run Radio Pakistan, aims to create employment opportunities for the country’s youth while advancing technological infrastructure.
The announcement follows the approval by Pakistan’s federal cabinet last year for the auction of 5G spectrum services, marking a significant step forward in the nation’s telecommunications landscape. Notably, Pakistan’s last auction for 3G and 4G networks occurred in April 2014, setting the stage for subsequent advancements in connectivity.
Khawaja emphasized the transformative potential of 5G, particularly in empowering the country’s youth and fostering growth within the IT sector. Addressing a ceremony in Islamabad commemorating the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, she highlighted the government’s collaboration with optic fiber companies to enhance export volumes, leveraging Pakistan’s strengths in this domain.
Furthermore, the state minister disclosed a substantial allocation of five billion rupees for youth skill development initiatives, underscoring the government’s commitment to nurturing talent and fostering digital literacy.
In addition to preparing for the 5G rollout, the incumbent coalition government is actively engaged in expanding exports for approximately 35 companies involved in mobile phone manufacturing, demonstrating a holistic approach to advancing Pakistan’s technological ecosystem.
With these initiatives, Pakistan aims to harness the potential of 5G technology to propel economic growth, foster innovation, and empower its burgeoning youth population in the digital age.
