The Pakistan Human Resource Network (PHRN), in collaboration with the Shaheed Bhutto Foundation, Ministry of Human Rights Pakistan, Islamabad High Court Bar Association, and Voice for Rights International Firm, organized a seminar on “Domestic Violence: Understanding Legal Protection and Supporting Victims” at SZABIST University.
The event aimed to raise awareness about the prevalence of domestic violence in Pakistan, the legal protections available to victims, and the importance of supporting survivors. Ms. Mughiza Imtiaz, Chairperson of the PHRN Women’s Rights Cell and Education Committee, who played a key role in organizing the Session.
The keynote speaker Shiza Qureshi and Panelists – Barrister Syed Qamar Sabzwari and Chairmen of the Executive Committee at Islamabad Bar Council, Advocate Shafqat Abbas Tarrar (Secretary of Islamabad High Court Bar ), Barrister Waqas Malik(Ex-Secretary), and Deputy Director Rukhsana Omer from the Ministry of Human Rights, and Asif Khan (CEO of Shaheed Bhutto Foundation )- emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach to address domestic violence, including legal aid, counseling, and social support. They also highlighted the crucial role of law enforcement, the judiciary, and civil society organizations in protecting victims and holding perpetrators accountable.
The seminar was attended by lawyers, activists, students, and concerned citizens, who engaged in a lively discussion and Q&A session. The event concluded with a call to action, urging participants to join forces in combating domestic violence and promoting gender equality.
