CEO of Microsoft said the company will invest $1.7 billion in cloud and AI infrastructure in Indonesia

Microsoft is set to channel a staggering $1.7 billion investment into Indonesia, with a focus on bolstering the Southeast Asian nation’s capabilities in cloud services and Artificial Intelligence (AI), according to the company’s Chief Executive, Satya Nadella.

Launching his tour of Southeast Asian countries in Jakarta, Nadella unveiled Microsoft’s ambitious plans to fortify Indonesia’s technological landscape. The investment encompasses the establishment of data centers and the deployment of advanced AI infrastructure across the country.

Highlighting Microsoft’s unwavering commitment to innovation, Nadella underscored the company’s leadership role in advancing AI technology. His discussions with outgoing President Joko Widodo and key cabinet members centered on collaborative efforts in AI research and talent development.

As part of its global strategy, Microsoft aims to train 2.5 million individuals in Southeast Asia in AI utilization by 2025, aligning with its broader mission to foster AI innovation worldwide. This initiative dovetails with Microsoft’s recent investments in cloud and AI infrastructure, including substantial commitments in Japan and a notable investment in the UAE-based AI firm G42.

Nadella’s visit coincides with a surge in tech-related interest in Indonesia, exemplified by a recent meeting between Apple Inc CEO Tim Cook and President Widodo. During this encounter, Cook expressed potential interest in establishing a manufacturing facility in the country.
