England’s provisional squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup has welcomed the return of fast bowler Jofra Archer, marking a significant moment in the career of one of cricket’s most thrilling talents, who has endured a series of setbacks due to injuries.
At 29 years old, Archer is renowned as one of the most exciting fast bowlers in the sport, with his pace and skill capturing the attention of cricket enthusiasts worldwide. However, his international appearances have been limited since 2021, largely due to persistent issues with his right elbow, which have necessitated two surgical procedures. Additionally, a back injury sidelined him for the majority of the 2022 season.
Having emerged as a key figure for England following his decision to switch nationalities and represent his adopted country, Archer played a pivotal role in England’s triumph at the 2019 Cricket World Cup, followed by an impressive performance in the Ashes series later that year.
With his selection in the provisional squad, England will be hopeful that Archer can maintain his fitness for the upcoming four-match Twenty20 series against Pakistan and the subsequent T20 World Cup, set to take place in the Caribbean and the United States.
The T20 World Cup campaign kicks off for England with a match against Scotland on June 4 at Kensington Oval in Barbados.
Joining Archer in the 15-man squad are notable names such as Jonny Bairstow and Will Jacks, both of whom have showcased their batting prowess with impressive performances in the Indian Premier League. Additionally, left-arm spinning all-rounder Tom Hartley earns his place as the sole uncapped player in the squad.
Jos Buttler will lead the team as captain, as England aims to secure its second T20 World Cup title.
The complete squad comprises: Jos Buttler (captain), Moeen Ali, Jofra Archer, Jonny Bairstow, Harry Brook, Sam Curran, Ben Duckett, Tom Hartley, Will Jacks, Chris Jordan, Liam Livingstone, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt, Reece Topley, and Mark Wood.
