Islamabad – The Margalla Hills Half Marathon, held at VIC Trail 5 in the Margella Hills National Park, concluded with an inspiring display of environmental consciousness by Romina Khurshid, the Prime Minister’s Coordinator for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination.
In a powerful gesture during the closing ceremony, Romina Khurshid refused to drink water from a plastic bottle, highlighting the grave environmental hazards posed by plastic usage. Recognizing the urgent need for action, Khurshid emphasized the government’s commitment to formulating an effective strategy for a plastic-free environment.
Addressing the gathering, Khurshid underscored the global significance of combating climate change, emphasizing that it transcends politics and requires collective efforts from all sectors of society. She welcomed positive suggestions from journalists and expressed appreciation for the organizers of the marathon, emphasizing that its purpose extends beyond competition to raising public awareness about environmental conservation.
Khurshid stressed the pivotal role of the youth in combating climate change, noting that they are the frontline force in this endeavor. She highlighted the importance of conserving the Margella Hills National Park and commended the efforts of the Islamabad Wildlife Management Board in this regard.
Furthermore, Khurshid emphasized that the management of tourist traffic on trails reflects effective trail management and reiterated that the conservation of natural heritage should be a top priority for all. She concluded with a poignant reminder that nature’s well-being is intricately linked with our own, urging everyone to love and respect nature as it reciprocates.
The Ministry of Climate Change announced plans to organize similar events in the future, reaffirming the government’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
