Encourage collaborations to overcome global concerns, says the Pakistani envoy to the EU

At the Brussels Press Club on Monday, the Pakistani Embassy in Brussels hosted the publication of the book “The Security Imperative – Pakistan’s Nuclear Deterrence and Diplomacy” written by Ambassador Zamir Akram.

Ambassadors located in Brussels, members of the diplomatic service, and experts from think tanks and academia all attended the event.

In his remarks, Ambassador Zamir Akram emphasized that Pakistan’s steadfast pursuit of nuclear deterrent is not inspired by ideas of prestige and aspirations to become a great power, but rather by the country’s pressing, existential, and changing security issues. He stressed that the book gives readers a practical understanding of the crucial role Pakistan’s astute diplomacy played in allowing the country to acquire nuclear deterrent capabilities.

Amna Baloch, the ambassador of Pakistan to the European Union, Belgium, and Luxembourg, commended Ambassador Zamir Akram’s contribution to the promotion of Pakistan’s nuclear diplomacy in her closing remarks. In an interconnected society, she emphasized the importance of forging collaborations to overcome global concerns.

Following the presentation of the book by Ambassador Zamir Akram, audience members engaged in an open and frank debate about many aspects of nuclear deterrence, the future of the UN’s disarmament machinery, and strategies for tackling local and global security issues.
