Federal Minister for Health Addresses WHO Event on World Health Day<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Islamabad : Speaking at a high-level event organized by the World Health Organization (WHO), Pakistan to mark World Health Day, Federal Minister for Health, Mr. Mustafa Kamal, shed light on the grave challenges facing Pakistan’s health system, particularly maternal health and child nutrition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEvery year, 10,000 women in Pakistan lose their lives due to complications during pregnancy. These are silent tragedies happening across the country, with little to no public outcry,\u201d said Minister Kamal. \u201cIf such a high number of deaths occurred due to any other cause, our national response would be very different. We cannot afford to lose even a single life due to maternal causes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Minister stressed the urgent need for both individual and collective efforts to prevent these avoidable deaths, saying, \u201cEvery life is precious and must be protected. These women can be saved.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Highlighting the weaknesses of the healthcare system, he remarked, \u201cPakistan\u2019s health system is not in a healthy state. But we are hopeful with systemic reforms, we can save lives. I do not consider this position a privilege, but a test. I want to pass this test with honesty and commitment.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minister Kamal also addressed the issue of child stunting, stating that 38% of children in Pakistan suffer from stunted growth, a condition that threatens their ability to play an active role in the country\u2019s future. \u201cWithout investing in the health and nutrition of our children today, our dreams of national progress will remain unfulfilled,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He emphasized the importance of WHO\u2019s partnership in achieving improvements in Pakistan\u2019s healthcare system. \u201cWith the support of the WHO, we are committed to making meaningful progress in maternal and child health,\u201d he said. \u201cThe health sector is directly connected to human lives. Mistakes in other fields can be corrected, but in health, the consequences are immediate and profound.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minister Kamal reiterated that the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr. Shehbaz Sharif, has made healthcare a top national priority. \u201cThe Prime Minister is taking serious steps toward healthcare reform. Under his leadership, we are committed to delivering a stronger and more equitable healthcare system.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He concluded by expressing gratitude on behalf of the entire nation: \u201cWe deeply appreciate the continued support and invaluable services of the World Health Organization in improving Pakistan\u2019s health sector.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
