China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) \u2014 part of Beijing\u2019s Belt and Road Initiative \u2014 was entering its second phase, but there were efforts by some countries to \u201cbypass Pakistan in this process of connectivity\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c[But] I have no doubt that Pakistan and China will together fill in the gap and this corridor \u2026 will extend in many ways to include the entire region and other parts of the world,\u201d he said while addressing a ceremony held to mark 10 years of CPEC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1767514\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">arrived<\/a> in Pakistan yesterday for a three-day visit, attended the ceremony as the chief guest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During his address, Shehbaz thanked the Chinese vice premier for visiting Pakistan and joining the celebrations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said Lifeng was the \u201clynchpin\u201d in extending cooperation and support for CPEC in its early days and \u201cvery helpful\u201d in ensuring the speedy operations of the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Referring to Sunday\u2019s \u201cdevastating\u201d terror attack in Bajaur, he said terrorism had also been a subject of joint cooperation between Pakistan and China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The prime minister thanked China for supporting Pakistan at \u201cthis critical juncture\u201d by rolling over loans. \u201cPakistan wants to move away from loans, aid and handouts and wants to stand on its own feet,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking before him, Chinese Vice Premier Lifeng termed CPEC an \u201cimportant pioneering project\u201d of the Belt and Road Initiative, adding that China and Pakistan had achieved many \u201cearly harvests\u201d in the project which led to new impetus to the latter\u2019s socio-economic development and laid the foundation for regional integration and connectivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt is a vivid testament to our all-weather friendship and provides an important \u201c opportunity for building a close Pakistan-China community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said China would work with Pakistan to aim for high standards, sustainable and livelihood-enhancing outputs, continue to improve overall planning and expand and deepen their bilateral relationship to build CPEC into a high-quality project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNo matter how the regional landscape may change, China will always stand firmly with Pakistan and will continue to work hand in hand and forge ahead with sincerity to carry forward our iron friendship.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Chinese vice premier gave updates on the status of various CPEC projects, adding that the project had become an important driver for regional economic growth and had set an example of \u201cmutual trust and common development\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOver the decades, CPEC has promoted development, delivered shared benefits and has become a corridor of wellbeing and prosperity,\u201d he said, adding, \u201cThe road ahead for Pakistan will be wider and prospects for its development will be brighter.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Hilal-i-Pakistan conferred on Lifeng<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"739\" height=\"439\" src=\"http:\/\/localhost\/Tat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Capture.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18\" sizes=\"(max-width: 739px) 100vw, 739px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier today, President Arif Alvi conferred Pakistan\u2019s second-highest civil award, Hilal-i-Pakistan (Crescent of Pakistan), on Lifeng during an investiture ceremony held at Aiwan-e-Sadar in Islamabad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The award was given to the Chinese dignitary to honour his role in the promotion of bilateral ties between Pakistan and China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ceremony was attended by PM Shehbaz and other civil and military leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lifeng also met Chief of Army Staff Gen Asim Munir, with the military\u2019s media affairs wing saying matters of mutual interest and defence cooperation were discussed between the two.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBoth reiterated the desire to further enhance and strengthen bilateral relations in all fields,\u201d the Inter-Services Public Relations said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Pakistan, China sign six agreements<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier today, China and Pakistan signed six agreements for the promotion of bilateral cooperation. The event was attended by PM Shehbaz, the Chinese vice premier, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal and other foreign dignitaries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Addressing the occasion, PM Shehbaz said, \u201cI thank the Chinese president for sending his senior official to Pakistan, expressing the solidarity of people-to-people friendship between the two countries. This gesture demonstrates the strength of our friendship.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI have no doubt that we are entering into the second phase of CPEC.
